This expressive tea cup by Shigeyoshi Morioka is hand-thrown from clay and fired unglazed in a multi-chamber wood kiln. The surface is dramatically split—one side glazed by flame into dark charcoal black, the other left glowing in burnt orange.
Rough-textured and asymmetric, the cup speaks to Morioka’s deep trust in fire. Every mark here is natural, unplanned. A vessel of contrast: still and fierce, quiet and bold.
