This small tea cup by Shigeyoshi Morioka is thrown by hand and fired unglazed in a traditional wood kiln. The silhouette is quietly balanced—open at the lip, tapering toward a narrow foot. Its surface fades from warm earthen orange to a smoky ash grey, with subtle speckling from the clay’s iron content.
The result is a vessel that holds not just tea, but quiet. Nothing in excess, everything in place. As if it grew from soil and cooled in fire.
